Wausaukee Composites, Inc. Awarded Two Multi-Year Wind Turbine Component Manufacturing Contracts, and Announces New Plant in Cuba City, Wisconsin
January 24th, 2008
Wisconsin-based composites manufacturer to provide wind turbine housing components and subassemblies to two major wind energy industry customers. The wind turbine components will be manufactured at the company's Wausaukee plant, and at a new plant location in Cuba City, Wisconsin, creating 70 new jobs.
WAUSAUKEE, WISCONSIN – Wausaukee Composites, Inc. announced today it has been awarded purchase contracts for the supply of wind turbine nacelle housings to two major wind turbine generator manufacturers. Combined, the two agreements are anticipated to generate more than $35 Million in sales over a three-year period.
A major international wind turbine manufacturer has awarded Wausaukee Composites a contract for the supply of wind turbine nacelle housings, spinning hubs and nosecone assemblies for its 1.5 megawatt wind turbine. The companies have signed a three-year supply agreement, whereby Wausaukee Composites will supply approximately 600 nacelle housing assemblies over a three-year period.
Separately, Wausaukee Composites also has existing commitments to supply more than 500 nacelle housings to a separate wind turbine manufacturer, over a three-year period. Wausaukee Composites will supply wind turbine nacelle housings, and secondary hardware assemblies for that company's 2.5 megawatt wind turbine. A 2.5 megawatt wind turbine has the power generation capability to provide electricity to approximately 650 residential homes.
"Wausaukee Composites is excited to play a contributing role in the rapidly developing wind energy industry in North America. We have been actively developing new manufacturing opportunities in this emerging market segment for more than two years. This is our green strategy, and a keystone in our overall growth strategy," said David Lisle, President and CEO of Wausaukee Composites. "The North American wind energy industry is a market where we see tremendous growth potential, and high demand for our specialized composite engineering, manufacturing, and value-added secondary assembly capabilities."
Wausaukee Composites will manufacture the wind turbine nacelle cover assemblies both at its Wausaukee plant in northeast Wisconsin, and at a new manufacturing plant it has recently acquired in Cuba City, Wisconsin. "The Cuba City plant will be a dedicated facility to the wind energy industry, and will have production capacity to produce up to 800 wind turbine nacelles a year," said Lisle. Initial production at the 42,000 square foot Cuba City plant will begin in February 2008. The company anticipates hiring approximately 40 new employees at the Cuba City plant in its first year of operation. "The City of Cuba City is extremely pleased to welcome Wausaukee Composites to our community," said Mayor Robert Beinborn. "This is a wonderful addition to our industrial park and we are looking forward to their presence in the city for many years to come."
Additionally, the company will add approximately 30 employees at its Wausaukee plant to support the manufacture of wind turbine nacelle components at that location. Initial shipments of wind turbine nacelles from the Wausaukee plant will begin in February 2008.
